Reluctant Home School – History Lesson #1

Okay, this is going out to all of the new, reluctant “home school” parents everywhere. Perhaps you are struggling with being creative in your “lesson plans.” In light of the current shortage in our food-chain, I am sending along this short video clip that you can share with your children about how times have changed when it comes to where we get our food.

Georgia Thomas shows and explains the Cobblestone Museum’s collection of early butter churns. She even explains how the family dog got into the act. After watching the video, and if you are fortunate enough to have some heavy cream, you can have the kids help “churn” some butter by putting a half pint of cream in a cold mason jar (with lid) and take turns shaking for about a half an hour. Spread the butter on crackers and talk about the outcome
