Baltimore Album Quilts: Their History & Major Styles

A link to watch the program at your leisure will be forwarded within 24 hours. This presentation is only available through January 31, 2026.

Baltimore Albums, produced largely between 1842 and 1862, are among the most elaborate and accomplished examples of American quilt making. This presentation will explain the context of their development and the various design styles, largely in floral applique, that emerged from Baltimore’s talented needlewomen and its religious groups. Many images of the genre’s lavish creations will be discussed.

Debby Cooney is a quilt historian and collector with a special interest in Baltimore Albums, 19th century Maryland and Pennsylvania quilts. She published “Baltimore Album Quilts: New Research” with Ronda McAllen in the journal of the American Quilt Study Group in 2017, plus other articles and essays.

By registering with a sliding scale donation to benefit the Cobblestone Society & Museum (501c3), you will receive a link to watch the program at a time of your choosing.
