Please do not hesitate to contact the Cobblestone Museum if you have suggestions, corrections, information and/or images pertaining to an unknown cobblestone structure.
Unknown Structure 1:
"The Midbury House is near Lyons also." states Dorothy Wells Pease in her paper "The Cobblestone Houses of Upstate New York", compiled by Dorothy Wells Pease. Research done in collaboration with Hazed B. Jeffery, supplemented with material furnished by Carl F. Schmidt, 1941. Reference the third paragraph on page 28.
This short statement and a Pease Collection photograph labeled "Midbury, Lyons Township, Wayne Cty." are the only known evidence of this structure.
Editor's Note: As of 6/24/2022 the entire Cobblestone Info Base had been reviewed and no match to this structure was found. Searches of Town of Lyons information have not found any match to the name Midbury; however, possible name variations Medberry and Medbery have been found, yet nothing to link these names to this or any cobblestone structure has been found. Co-editor Karen Crandall did a deep dive into genealogy and published documentation of the Town of Lions and adjoining Towns and found no association with a cobblestone structure.
There are a few no longer existing structures that possibly might be this structure, but to-date 6/25/2022 there is not enough information available for these structures to make any decisions.
Unknown Structure 2:
Cobblestone House Unknown 2.jpg
Dave Porter, a postcard enthusiast/collector, contributed the digital scan of this cobblestone structure from an antique photographic postcard. As of 8/17/2023 this structure, which is relative unique in appearance, does not appear to match any structure in the Cobblestone Info Base. The individuals in the photograph appear to be of African-American heritage. Note the architecture of what seems to be a large brick building at the left behind the cobblestone and frame structure, which may provide a location clue. Dave says that there wasn't any information on the postcard, and he can't recall where and when he procured the card.
