Changes to Concert (Sat. Oct. 5 at 3pm)

Due to health issues we regret the cancelation of the concert with the E-YAH-Pah-Hah Wind Quintet. We are pleased to say that we will still host a concert of Finnish and American music, today (Sat. Oct. 5), at 3pm, performed by local singer Maarit Vaga and accompanist Darryl Smith.

As a graduate of Houghton College in music, Darryl is well known as an accomplished organist and pianist, and currently serves as organist at Christ Episcopal Church in Albion. Maarit graduated from Bob Jones University in music, as well, and spent some years performing as a soloist specializing in Finnish and Estonian songs. Maarit & Darryl are first and foremost, close friends. They met each other at church and became instant friends, especially when they discovered their shared affinity for music. This passion has taken the duo to concerts and performances from Canada all the way down to Florida and places in between. Their long and lively history of collaborating musically includes a command performance for the President of Finland, Tarja Halonen when she visited the United States. This afternoon’s concert will include songs from Finland and arrangements of Gershwin songs.
