Georgia Thomas will be the host for the Cobblestone Society’s Maple Syrup bus tour on Friday, March 23 from 9am-4pm. Plan now to spend a fun, filling and educational day at various stops along the way as we travel to Attica, NY to visit Merle’s Maple Farm and the incredible Cartwright’s Maple Tree Inn in Angelica, NY. On the way, Georgia will give an overview of maple legend, lore and facts. She will also have recipes to share that she promises are yummy to the tummy!
Georgia was the cook for maple products at NY State Fair in the Wegmans Kitchen for a decade. She started cooking with maple in the NY State Maple Producer’s Booth at the State Fair at the request of Fly Way Farm (Medina) then moved to the Wegmans Demonstration Kitchen and began to create and adapt recipes for maple. Georgia said she had a wonderful time, but finally realized she was getting older and a new person needed to take over the reins.
At Merle’s, guests will learn the difference between maple sugar, syrup, and cream and will see, firsthand, how maple sap becomes syrup. At Cartwright’s, guests will have buckwheat pancakes (they are famous for these) with assorted meats and naturally, real maple syrup. There are, of course, gift shops at both locations with lots of maple sugar products on display.
Our tour date is part of Maple Syrup Weekend in NYS, Friday, March 23. The cost for the tour is $50 for Cobblestone Society members and $55 for others. For reservations call (585) 589-9013 or book online at cobblestonemuseum.org.
